Training On Inclusivity Approaches

Training on Inclusivity Approaches

According to World Health Organization {WHO}, 15% of the world’s population are people with disabilities. In many places around the world, the issue of inclusion is progressively taking shape. It is important that Technical and Vocational Education and Training {TVET} institutions implement this. The goal of the Sustainable Development Goals is to ensure that no one is left behind, hence equity and inclusion must be prioritized.

In response to this, Don Bosco Tech Africa organized a training on inclusion approaches for its staff and management. Sr. Gisele Mashauri and Daniel Mbau, both from PDO, FMA-AFE, were also present, as was Irene Waweru from Don Bosco Development Outreach Network (DBDON) – AFE.  The training was conducted by Jane Waithera and Iram Bahawal of Light for the World.

It is high time that we made our TVET centres inclusive. If TVET offers are made inclusive there will be improved job prospects, cost efficiency, effectiveness, empowerment and social inclusion.

At the end of the training the participants were able to understand the deeper meaning of disability, types of impairment and context, as well as identify the barriers to inclusion and disability etiquette and support.

Inclusivity is a journey and with this training Don Bosco Tech Africa has started its journey to bring on board strategies on inclusion in the Don Bosco TVET centres in Africa-Madagascar.
