World Rainforest Day 2024

World Rainforest Day 2024

It is a time to raise awareness about the vital forest ecosystems’ threats and the urgent need for their protection. Don Bosco Tech Africa through the Green TVET Initiative has been instrumental in afforestation and re-afforestation programs to come up with a green campus, green communities and green culture.

This day serves as a reminder of the importance of rainforests because;

  1. It is a home to many animals, bees and birds.
  2. It plays a key role in the hydrological cycle
  3. Source of wood and medicine.
  4. Source of rivers and streams as a catchment area.
  5. Protects and stops soil erosion.
  6. Improves the beauty (aesthetic) of the area.
  7. Improve the climate of an area (formation of microclimate)

These are just but some of the benefits of the forests. On World Rainforest Day, individuals are encouraged to take action to support rainforest conservation efforts. This can be done by participating in tree planting activities, supporting organisations dedicated to preserving rainforests, and advocating for sustainable practices that help protect these valuable forest ecosystems. By coming together all the time, we can make a difference in safeguarding the world’s rainforests for future generations.

As we mark World Rainforest Day today, June 22, 2024, let us remember rainforests’ critical role in sustaining life on Earth. We must all take responsibility for preserving these invaluable natural resources. By working together to protect and restore rainforests, we can achieve a healthier planet for ourselves, preserve countless species and continue to benefit from the essential services forests provide.
