Don Bosco Tech Africa Annual Board Meeting and Leadership Handover

Don Bosco Tech Africa (DBTA) held its annual Board meeting at its headquarters in Nairobi from 10 to 12 August 2026. The three-day meeting reviewed the organisation’s progress, considered emerging challenges, and explored strategies to strengthen the sustainability of the network.

Key presentations during the meeting focused on DBTA’s ongoing initiatives and projects, the organisation’s new structure, the Don Bosco Virtual Training Institute, the new DBTA website, and sustainability initiatives.

The Board engaged in detailed discussions on the challenges facing the network and examined strategies to address them effectively. Particular attention was given to opportunities for strengthening the sustainability of the network and determining the way forward following the completion of GP II. The discussions reflected the importance of ensuring that the organisation’s programmes and initiatives contribute to the sustainability of the Don Bosco TVET network.

The Board also held a session with the DBTA office staff, creating an opportunity for staff members to share their concerns, perspectives and suggestions on the sustainability of the organisation. During the session, Fr. George Tharaniyil, Board Chairperson, introduced and welcomed the new Don Bosco Tech Africa Director, Fr. Romeo Salami. He also introduced Br. Joseph Nyondo, who will join DBTA later in 2027.

A key moment of the meeting was the official handover of leadership from the outgoing DBTA Director, Fr. Maximus Okoro, to the incoming Director, Fr. Romeo Salami. The leadership transition marks an important moment for DBTA as the organisation continues its work to strengthen the Don Bosco TVET network across Africa and Madagascar. DBTA welcomed Fr. Romeo Salami to his new role and wished him success as he takes up the responsibility of leading the organisation.

The organisation also expressed its appreciation to Fr. Maximus Okoro for his strategic and outstanding leadership over the past three years and wished him well as he takes on his new responsibilities at Fondazione DON BOSCO NEL MONDO.

The meeting was attended by Fr. George Tharaniyil, Board Chairperson, Fr. Alphonse Owoudou, Regional Councillor for Central and Western Africa Region, Fr. Innocent Bizimana, Regional Councillor of East and South Africa Region, Fr. Maximus Okoro, outgoing DBTA Director, Fr. Romeo Salami, incoming DBTA Director, Fr. Alex Mulongo, Fr. Vincent Mokaya, Fr. Jojo Kachapilly, Fr. Boniface Mchami, Mr. Mathieu Adjanou and Br. Joseph Nyondo.
