International Day for Biological Diversity 2020

On Friday May 22, 2020, members of the Don Bosco TVET Green Clubs joined the rest of the world in commemorating the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB). This year, due to the prevailing Coronavirus pandemic, the celebration was held online with the theme “Our Solutions are in Nature” affirming our collective responsibility to work at all levels to build a future of life in harmony with natural resources.

The United Nations proclaimed May 22 as the International Day for Biological Diversity to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues.

Biological diversity resources are the pillars upon which we firmly build our civilizations. They provide intrinsic and extrinsic values to human survival such as food, plant-based medicines for our wellness and health, construction materials and recreational resources. However, anthropogenic activities threaten the survival of biodiversity resulting in their loss, consequently, threatening all including our health.

We are all expected to adopt a multifaceted and holistic approach in minimizing the loss of biodiversity for the benefit of humans and all life on earth.
