Child Safeguarding And Protection Training In Don Bosco Utume

Child Safeguarding and Protection Training in Don Bosco Utume

Creating the right environment through the promotion of a culture of rights within the Don Bosco institutions in Africa is a sure way of guaranteeing that children’s rights are upheld and promoted. Motivated by the message of Rector Major in 2020; where he called on each Don Bosco establishment to make sure that systems and procedures are put in place to guarantee the safety and protection of vulnerable children; as the coordinating body of Don Bosco technical institutions in Africa,  Don Bosco Tech Africa has taken the initiative to create awareness on child safeguarding and protection among the Salesians of Don Bosco and all associates serving and working in Don Bosco institutions in Africa.

Don Bosco Tech Africa in partnership with experts in the field of Child Safeguarding and Protection conducted training from 10th to 14th August 2022 at Don Bosco Utume the Salesian Theological College in Nairobi, Kenya.

The objectives of the training were; to create awareness of a safe environment for the children and young people to grow with dignity in all Don Bosco Institutions in Africa, to build the capacity of the participants to attain knowledge, skills, and correct attitudes needed to create a risk-free environment for all children, young people, and vulnerable adults in all Don Bosco Institutions and create partnerships, collaboration, and networking space for advocacy in Child Safeguarding and Protection matters.

The training was coordinated by Br. John Njuguna and facilitated by Ms. Catherine Kisasa and Sr. Damaris Muthusi. Similar training sessions were conducted in Rwanda and Uganda in May and July respectively.
