AFW Province, NIGERIA: On August 24, 2020, The staff from Planning and Development Office (PDO) and the National Job Service Office (N-JSO) took part in a training on “Team Building and Conflict Resolution.” The training was attended by 10 participants and facilitated by Engr. Charles Illoegbunam, the Managing Director and CEO of Asterisks Concept.

During his presentation on how to build an effective team, Engr. Charles reiterated the need for;

  • Alignment on roles, direction and purpose of the team,
  • High quality interaction, open communication and trust, and
  • A conducive environment for learning, innovation and risk taking.

A good team leader, he stressed, should carry out a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis of his team members to understand their capabilities, which will assist in knowing how best to engage them in achieving the team’s goals.

“Working in silos and working as competitors rather than co-operators in a team are signs of a bad team. In order to avoid this, team leaders must strive to inspire, communicate the vision clearly and give a sense of direction, create positive energy and enthusiasm, build trust, set stretch goals, manage conflicts and increase cooperation among team members.” He asserted.

This training is expected to enhance the capacity of the PDO and the N-JSO in their service delivery to the Salesian Centres, the TVET Centres and networking with internal and external stakeholders.
