President of WorldSkills International visits Nairobi

Outgoing Honorary President of WorldSkills International, Mr. Simon Bartley – OBE FWS visited Don Bosco Boys Town Nairobi. While addressing trainers and students, he urged the youth to embrace globalization that will go a long way in fulfilling the world’s future needs. “The future of our world is in the hands of our young people of today.” He said. Mr. Bartley further eulogized the late Jos de Goey, President and Chair of the WorldSkills Board as a visionary, charismatic and devoted leader in youth empowerment.

The mission of WorldSkills International is to raise the profile and recognition of skilled people, and show how important skills are in achieving economic growth and personal success. This resonates with Don Bosco Tech Africa’s mission of enhancing youth development in Africa through efficient resource management and Skill Training.

In attendance was Don Bosco Tech Africa (DBTA) Executive Director Fr. TJ George, Fr. Benn Agunga, Principal of DBBT, Mr.  Julius K Serem and Mr. Tom Olang’o, both from Technical and Vocational Education Training Authority (TVETA). The team proposed the formation of the Kenyan Chapter of the WorldSkills International, where Br. John Njuguna, the Deputy Director of DBTA is a national steering committee member.

The climax of this engagement was a high profile dinner held at the Carnivore Restaurant, Nairobi attended by Dr. Kevit Desai, Principal Secretary, State Department of East African Community (EAC); Ms. Joyce M. Njogu, Head of Kenya Association of Manufacturers Consulting; Prof Eric Okoth Ogur, TVET Advisor to the Education Cabinet Secretary; and DrKipkirui Langat, Director General of TVET Authority. Fr. TJ George shared with the guests a Job Service Manual developed by DBTA. The officials alleged their commitment to support the DBTA programmes that are tailored to empower the young generation.
